What a release overwrites

Replaced

  • Content tables: posts, post meta, terms.
  • Options, merged so that site-specific values such as URLs and keys are kept.
  • Theme and plugin folders that the release contains.
  • Uploads added in the Wigoh preview.

Never replaced

  • Users and user meta.
  • Comments.
  • Plugin runtime tables: orders, form entries and the like.

Live changes since the snapshot

Files and rows added on the live site after the snapshot are listed in the drift report before you approve. Drifted posts are additionally exported to a WXR file in the pre-release snapshot so they can be re-imported.

Sites with a non-standard table prefix

A release keeps the site's user roles intact even when the tables do not use the wp_ prefix.
