The environment check

The plugin looks at four signals and produces a verdict, staging or otherwise, with the evidence listed:

  • The WordPress environment type (for example staging or production).
  • The hostname (staging-like names such as staging. or dev.).
  • Search-engine visibility (a site that discourages indexing looks like staging).
  • HTTP authentication in front of the site.

The verdict and evidence are shown in WordPress and on the Wigoh approval page (Environment: staging, followed by each signal, its value and weight). On the Connected WordPress page, a site that is not staging carries an amber label with its environment.

A non-staging verdict does not block connection; it adds the acknowledgement step. See Staging versus live.
