Archiving a free preview (upcoming)

Not available yet

The account tiers and the one-free-website rule are live; see Account tiers and your free website. The seven-day archive described here is being introduced. Labels here are the intended ones and may change before release.

A free preview will stay live for seven days after its build finishes, then be archived until you buy it.

What will happen

  • Seven days. The project card in All Projects will show how many days remain: Preview ends in N days.
  • Archived, not lost. On day seven the preview is archived: a complete copy is kept safely for a year and the server behind it is removed. The card shows Archived and a Buy to restore button. Open, Edit and Publish are unavailable while a site is archived.
  • Buy to restore. Choosing a plan for an archived website restores it exactly as you left it, including every change you made in the editor, then the remaining pages are built as with any purchase. See Choose a plan.
  • After a year an archived site that was never bought is deleted.

Preview sites on a paid account that have no plan of their own follow the same seven-day rule. An archived preview frees one of the account's slots, exactly as deleting it does today.
